This bony deformity of the big toe joint is technically called Hallux Abductus Valgus.
It may cause pain and swelling over the big toe joint, callouses on the 1st or 2nd toe and blistering over the actual bunion.
Lesser toe deformities may include hammer or claw toes. These may also have callous or corns at either the end of the toes or on the joints.
Non- surgical treatments include painkillers, orthotics and bunion pads.
Surgery is the only way to correct this deformity.
